McMaster's resignation won't affect Japan-US relations - spokesman

TOKYO, March 23 (KUNA) -- Japan said Friday that US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster's resignation won't negatively affect the two countries' relationship, referring to their policies toward North Korea.
"We have been engaging in close exchanges of views with the US government, including the ones between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Donald Trump, as well as at a working level. We do not think there will be significant negative impact," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference.
The top government spokesman made the remarks after Trump said Thursday that he will replace McMaster with John Bolton, a former ambassador to the UN. Bolton will assume his new post on April 9. "Japan will continue to work closely with the new minister," Suga added. (end) mk.hb
