KUWAIT, March 20 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) distributed Tuesday relief aid to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh to alleviate their suffering in the harsh conditions.
The relief aid was distributed in the Cox-Bazar region in the presence of Kuwait's Ambassador to Bangladesh, Adel Hayat. It was in cooperation between the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP), Secretary General of KRCS Maha Al-Barjas told KUNA.
The relief campaign includes the distribution of food to more than 14,000 refugees for three months of about USD 500,000.
KFAED donated USD one million to provide humanitarian aid to the Rohingya refugees, she said.
Kuwait has allocated about KD 4.5 million (USD 15 million) to support the Rohingya refugees, she said, stressing that the organization is always seeking to alleviate the suffering of the refugees.
Al-Barjas called regional and international humanitarian and human rights organizations to intensify their efforts and humanitarian movements to provide assistance to those affected. (end) zak.ss
