EU underlines full solidarity with UK over Salisbury incident

BRUSSELS, March 19 (KUNA) -- European Union Foreign Ministers are to discuss the Salisbury incident, developments in Syria, North Korea and the Iranian nuclear file during their meeting in Brussels later Monday.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the meeting, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said the ministers will be briefed by UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on the Salisbury incident.
She expressed the EU's "full solidarity with the UK" and "extreme concern that has happened which is unacceptable." On Syria, she said that UN Secretary General's Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura will update the ministers on the situation, noting that "it looks rather bleak and developments on the ground are getting worse." Mogherini stressed the importance to prepare the conference on Syria in Brussels in April with the UN and renewed the call for an immediate ceasefire. She urged the guarantors of the Astana process - Iran, Russia and Turkey - to work for de-escalation of the situation.
The EU ministers will also discuss the full implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal, she said, clarifying that there is no proposal of additional sanctions on Iran.
The ministers will meet the foreign minister of South Korea Kang Kyung-wha to discuss the latest developments in the Korean peninsula.
Further, the ministers will discuss the reform agenda in the Ukraine. (end) nk.hb
