Bundestag elects Merkel as German Chancellor for 4th term

BERLIN, March 14 (KUNA) -- The German federal parliament (Bundestag) re-elected Angela Merkel as Chancellor for the fourth consecutive term.
Merkel, 63, won 364 out of 709 votes, 11 more than needed to gain an absolute majority.
After the vote, the chancellor will be heading to Schloss Bellevue to receive a letter of appointment from president Frank-Walter Steinmeier, before taking the oath of office.
Merkelآ’s Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats, who have agreed to re-enter a grand coalition together, have a total of 399 votes between them.
The German chancellor has stated that her new government's focus would be on integrating refugees and increasing state powers. (end) anj.gta
