VIENNA, March 3 (KUNA) -- In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Austrian empire's fall, the newly refurbished Imperial Furniture Collection museum, founded in 1747, opened its doors to history enthusiasts eager to learn more about Austria's illustrious past.
The Museum's Scientific Director Dr. Ilsebill Barta said that the Austrian authority made it paramount to renovate and revitalize the museum in order to highlight the country's imperial history.
Making sure that the museum would maintain its aura was one of the top priorities of the facility's curators, said Dr. Barta who indicated that the museum mostly housed the collection of the Habsburg monarchy, which ruled the empire from the 11th century until 1780.
The Vienna Furniture Collection houses around 176,000 pieces including items belonging to Empress Maria Theresa, Emperor Joseph II, and Franz Joseph I, and Charles I.
The royal family continued to store items the location until the first Austrian Republic rose to prominence in 1918 which then took control of imperial properties throughout the land.
Rather than destroying the imperial furniture collection, the Republic opted for turning the facility into a museum for the public to visit and ponder on. (end) amq.gta
