GENEVA, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The 37th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which begins Monday, is set to address a myriad of critical Arab issues, said a Kuwaiti diplomat on Saturday.
Kuwait's permanent delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim told KUNA that his country would work alongside Arab and Islamic nations to make sure that the meeting will look into Israeli human rights violations in Arab territories, including the holy city of Jerusalem.
He pointed out that the issue needs to be further examined given the fact that "Israeli transgressions remain unabated." On other topics on the UNHRC session's agenda, Al-Ghunaim revealed that current happenings in Libya and Yemen will be discussed, in addition to the outcomes of a recent Kuwait-hosted conference on reconstruction in Iraq.
"Kuwait throws its weight behind all efforts to espouse the merits of such virtues as tolerance and harmony at a time where our region is gripped by conflict," he added.
Al-Ghunaim pointed out that Kuwait has established a close rapport with the UNHRC in recent years, citing a protocol for cooperation to be sealed soon.
The 37th UNHRC session runs from February 26 to March 23, where numerous reports prepared by UN human rights experts will be unveiled. (end) ta.nam
