India successfully test-fires nuclear capable "Dhanush" missile

NEW DELHI, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- India conducted on Friday yet another successful test-firing of nuclear-capable "Dhanush" missile from a naval ship off Odisha coast in eastern part of the country.
The surface-to-surface Dhanush ballistic missile, capable of hitting ground and sea targets and to carry 500kg of payload, was test-fired from an Indian Navy ship located near Paradip in the Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, the Press Trust of India said quoting a defence official.
The test, carried out by the Strategic Force Command as part of Indian Navy's training exercise, was a success as "all mission objectives were met during the trial," according to the sources.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation developed the Dhanush missile, as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme. The missile with 350-km strike range is a naval variant of Prithvi missile and has already been inducted.
Last Tuesday, the Strategic Force Command successfully test-fired medium-range nuclear-capable Agni II missile from a launch pad at APJ Abdul Kalam island off the Odisha coast. (end) atk.mt
