KUWAIT, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- Since it was founded in 1983, Dar Al-Athar Al- Islamiyyah (DAI) has been serving the Kuwaiti cultural scene via spreading arts and culture appreciation locally, regionally, and globally.
DAI, celebrating its 35th anniversary, was founded to display the collections owned by Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and his wife Sheikh Husa Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
While initially displaying Al-Sabah's collections, DAI evolved with the institute now owning over 30,000 art pieces, artifacts and objects from the Islamic world, Spain, China, and more.
Speaking to KUNA, head of the DAI fellowship founding committee and member of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL) Bader Al-Baijan said that the institute played an integral role in preserving and displaying important Islamic art and artifacts.
DAI also has a hand in organizing cultural events and exhibitions in various parts of the world, which makes it one of the most active entities promoting arts and cultural appreciation, said the official.
Al-Baijan also indicated that Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiya organized several training courses to spread cultural awareness amongst all sectors of society namely children.
DAI took part in several global exhibitions from 1985 until 1989. The institute also organized since 1990 several exhibitions in Kuwait and elsewhere, informing the world about DAI's collection. (end) shd.gta
