Arab League urges for agreement to resolve refugees' dilemma

CAIRO, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- The Arab League called on Wednesday for an Arab agreement to solve refugees' problem and encounter their flow to Arab nations.
The urge was made by the Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs of the Arab League, head of General Secretariat of the Council of Justice Ministers, Dr. Fadel Jawad, during a meeting of the joint committee of experts, Ministries of Justice and Interior representatives Arab nations.
Reaching an Arab agreement to solve this dilemma is an important step to encounter the threats of collective displacement due to armed conflicts and terrorist operations taking place in the region, he added.
Dr. Jawad called on the Arab nations not to neglect warnings of Arab refugees' flow, noting that their rates have never been seen in the new millennium, as this will result in a severe international crisis.
He stressed on importance of reaching radical solutions through working out a binding Arab agreement to offer them asylum and resettle them in their homelands.
This accord should offer safe routes to the refugees, allow their families to gather and meet as well as offering them free visas to avoid putting them at the risk of death as they try to cross borders illegally, he said.
It should also secure for the refugees their basic needs including education and health care, he said The proposed agreement will be referred to the Arab Justice Ministers Council and the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior, in upcoming sessions for approval.
Kuwait took part in this meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Interior headed by Acting Director General of Legal Affairs Public Administration Colonel Bader Bin Najem, besides senior officials at the Ministry. (end) mfm.af.lb
