ISLAMABAD, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- At least 43 Taliban fighters have been killed and 20 others wounded during a clash with Afghan security forces in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province, said official on Tuesday.
Dozens of insurgents stormed the Nesh district police headquarters that drew a strong response from Afghan security forces, Matiullah Hilal, Deputy Spokesperson for provincial police, told media.
The Afghan Air Force supported the security forces in the district killing 43 Taliban rebels and wounding 20 others, Hilal noted.
The spokesperson also claimed that several weapons and motorbikes were seized by security forces, adding that no casualties were reported.
According to local media, Taliban spokesperson claimed that fighters had captured two security check-posts and inflicted casualties on a large number of security personnel.
Earlier in the month, around 42 insurgents were killed and at least eight others wounded during security operations in various parts of the country, said Afghan Ministry of Defense.
The clash came a month after three major attacks by rebels in Afghan capital city Kabul killing over 150 people including foreigners and soldiers. (end) sbk.ma
