TUNIS, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday vowed to double his country's investments in Tunisia by 2020.
The visiting French president, addressing an extraordinary parliamentary session, said Tunisia is currently witnessing "unprecedented democracy" but it faces the challenges of transforming "the Tunisian spring into a socio-economic spring."
Tunisia has proven that Islam can co-exist with democracy, said the French leader who promised to double the French businesses in the country by 2020.
Economic and social reforms are necessary to pursue the process of success in Tunisia, said President Macron, who arrived in Tunisia on Wednesday on a two-day visit.
French-Tunisian trade exchanges in 2015 amounted to USD nine billion. The
French investments in the country were estimated, in 2016, at USD 1.7 billion. (end)
