UN official applauds Kuwait for hosting Iraq reconstruction conf.

GENEVA, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- The chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing on Tuesday spoke highly of a Kuwaiti initiative to hold a conference over the reconstruction of war-torn Iraq.
In his meeting with Kuwait's permanent delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim, Swing was invited to attend the Kuwait-hosted conference on February 12-14.
On the conference, the director general of the intergovernmental body pointed out that it proves yet again Kuwait's unwavering commitment towards humanitarian causes.
He added that His Highness the Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's shrewdness has garnered him the admiration of the international community.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti envoy told KUNA that the much-acclaimed conference would prove instrumental in restoring stability and security in Baghdad.
Al-Ghunaim revealed that he plans to invite other bodies affiliated with the UN to take part in the conference as well.
Donor countries and organizations are expected to announce financial aid to Iraq at the meeting next month. (end) ta.nam
