MOSCOW, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Saturday discussed with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson the situation in Syria, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The two men exchanged views over developments in the Arab country including means of restoring stability in northern Syria as well as pushing forward the UN-sponsored political process, it added.
Lavrov and Tillerson underlined importance the conciliation conference for Syria, due in the Black Sea city of Sochi, in pushing the settlement in Syria.
Russia declared earlier the Sochi conference would be held on January 29-30.
Turkey has been launching a military operations against Kurdish separatists in the northern Syrian city of Afrin, an operation Ankara said aimed at eliminating "terrorists" and restoring security and stability at the borders. (pickup previous)
