17 killed, 30 injured in major fire in Indian capital

NEW DELHI, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- At least 17 people were killed and 30 others were injured on Saturday as a major fire broke out in Bawana industrial area near Indian capital, New Delhi.
Indo Asian News Agency said quoting a Delhi fire services official that their office received three phone calls from Bawana reporting fire in three different factories in the area.
The fire tenders and rescue teams have so far recovered 17 bodies from a plastic industry place and its warehouse located in Sector Five of Bawana as the building was ripped by the fire.
Fire has been brought under control in the building, said a police official, adding the rescue operation is still on as the authorities fear that many workers are trapped inside the doomed building.
No casualties were reported from the other two factories. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered an inquiry into the incident. (end) atk.bs
