Indian-Pakistani cross border hostilities left many killed, injured

NEW DELHI, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Indian police sources said on Saturday alleged ongoing ceasefire violation by the Pakistan forces amid growing border tension has resulted in the killing of nine people and injured 40 others in the last two days.
"One soldier and four civilians were killed on Saturday in Pakistani shelling and firing along the Line of Control and the International Border while one soldier and one Border Security Force trooper and two civilians were killed on Friday," the Indo Asian News Agency said quoting a police official in the state.
The Indian police stated that the Pakistani forces are continuing their indiscriminate shelling and firing on both the civilian and security targets, adding Indian forces are giving befitting reply and at least seven Pakistan personnel were killed and four of their posts were destroyed.
According to local reports, around 10,000 residents living close to the border villages in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts have left their homes in search of safer places.
Local authorities also shuttered around 300 schools and educational institutions located along the border districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies. (end) atk.bs
