KUWAIT, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- First Deputy Prime and Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has affirmed anew that "there is no opposition to women's joining the national military service if they desire so," expressing readiness to accept female volunteers in the defense sector.
Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad, in a statement at the National Assembly, following a meting by the committee of interior and defense affairs, said the deliberations during the session did not address proposed amendments to the national service law or women's joining the military ranks, however there is no opposition to their volunteering if they desire so." "Why the Ministry of Defense will be deprived of the Kuwaiti women's service at a time they are serving in the Ministry of Interior and among guards of the National Assembly?," he wondered.
Trimming conscription duration from one year to four months has remained under discussion by the committee, he added. (end) ns.rk
