KUWAIT, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's shooting team won a triumvirate of medals Monday in the second day of the ongoing His Highness the Amir's International Shooting Grand Prix.
Shahad Al-Hawal powered her way to a gold medal in the Trap Shooting contest with 48 points, while her sister Sara trailed in second place with 46 points.
Meanwhile, the Al-Hawal sisters' compatriot, Mariam Rezouqi, bested Egypt's Shaima Hashad in the 10 meter air pistol contest, accumulating 247 points.
Abaid Al-Osaimi, the secretary general of the Arab and Kuwaiti shooting federations, heaped praise on the athletes for their impressive performances in a tournament that features contestants from 39 nations.
He said that he was confident that the Kuwaiti athletes would reign supreme as the championship progresses.
On her hard-fought victory over Italy's Isabela Cristina, Al-Hawal told KUNA that the celebrated shooter gave her a run for her money.
Speaking to the press, Rezouqi pointed out that the presence of veteran athletes made this year's competition "extra stiff." She added that Arab shooting teams have begun to make their presence felt in the precision sport. (end) fsa.nam
