Global partnerships key for sustainable development -- UN

BEIRUT, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The UN stressed on the need for partnership between public and private sectors and NGOs to achieve sustainable development on Monday.
In a statement published on the bulletin of the UN media center in Beirut regarding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN noted that achieving sustainable development will only happen through serious global partnerships.
Creating partnerships between all sectors involves sharing experience, technology and finance sources, it added.
It also called on Developed Countries to commit to provide financial aid for Developing countries. In 2013, developmental aid recorded its highest rate at over USD 134 billion, the UN said.
Meanwhile, the UN affirmed the need to develop environment-friendly technologies in Developing countries. It noted that there are about four billion people deprived of using the internet, 90 percent of those are in Developing Countries.
In this context, Kuwait is exerting great efforts to create local and international partnerships to achieve the SDGs, as well as provide financial aid to Developing Countries and Less-Developed Countries.
On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet, create equality and ensure well-living for all. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.
Creating global partnerships is the 17th and last goal in the agenda, involving the participation of all countries, stakeholders and people to aid the poorest countries in achieving development. (end) ayb.ag
