Four people killed in Iran protests

TEHRAN, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- Four people have been killed in anti-government demonstrations in Dorud city in Lorestan Province, south-west of Tehran, local authorities said.
Doroud Mayor Mashallah Nimati was quoted by Iranian media as saying that two people were killed and six others injured in the first day of protests.
He added that two others died, one boy and a man, when they were hit by a fire car taken away by rioters.
Nimati noted that some security personnel were injured in these events, in addition to the damage to public properties, religious places and banks in the city.
Lorestan Province's deputy governor for political and security affairs, Habibollah Khojastehpour said that two people were killed during a protest rally in the western city of Dorood on Saturday.
He added that his government goal was to end the gathering peacefully. (end) mw.ha
