NCCAL announces winners of state awards '17

KUWAIT, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- The National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL) announced winners of 2017's awards, approved during a meeting chaired by Minister of Information Mohammad Al-Jabri. In a statement obtained by KUNA on Tuesday, NCCAL said that former Minister of Information and media figure Mohammad Al-Asousi won the state's award for cultural services. Al-Asousi is one of the founders of Kuwait Television, TV folk band and Kuwait Cinema Club, it added.
Veteran singer Abdulkareem Abdulqader won the arts' award. The singer who has many top hit songs, received many awards including the golden award at Cairo's fourth festival in 1998.
Meawnhile, Kuwaiti businessman and founder of Sakhr Software Company Mohammad Al-Sharikh won the electronic telecommunications award, NCCAL said. Al-Sharikh introduced Arabic language into computers for the first time in the 80s.
The formative arts award was won by Zaid Al-Obaid for his work titled "tashweeh", which means mutilation.
NCCAL added that director and actor Abdullah Al-Turkmani won the TV directing award. Al-Turkmani is a member in a theatrical band and has won many awards in theatrical and cinematic acting and directing.
Moreover, cinematic and musical director Ramadan Khasrouh won the cinematic award for his movie "Habeeb Al-Ardh". Khasrouh took part in many international movie festivals and won global awards.
Journalist and novelist Mona Al-Shammari won the short story award for her work "two heads under one umbrella".
Theatrical author Taghreed Al-Dawoud won the theatrical script award. The author won many awards in theatrical writing and had also published theatrical scripts titled "clowns wanted".
NCCAL noted that English teacher and writer Huda Al-Shawa won the children literature award for her work "an elephant's journey". Al-Shawa has published many items in literature and theatrical scripts, while her books had also won several awards.
The translation award went to translator and English professor Tariq Fakhr Al-Deen for translating the "letters from Kuwait 1953-1955" book written by Peter Linhart. The winner has founded Al-Abraj Translation Publishing Company in 1978 and Atlas Translation Group in 1999.
Meanwhile, the award for historical studies went to modern history professor Hamad Al-Qahtani for his work titled "the role of Saudi Arabia in the 1963 crisis between Kuwait and Iraq. Al-Qahtani has many contributions in the academic field and he was also member of intermediate school curriculums committee.
The same award also went to researcher in the history of Education and Kuwaiti heritage Bader Zowair for his work "Al-Ahmadia school". The researcher has published several items including "celebrating 100 years anniversary of Al-Mubarakiya school" in 2011, it said.
NCCAL said anthropology and sociology professor at Kuwait University Dr. Ali Al-Zaabi won the sociology award for his work titled "developmental policies and political challenges in the Arab World : Kuwait's case." The psychology award went to assistant professor at Kuwait Higher Institute of Musical Arts Dr. Fathi Al-Qallaf for his work "musical psychology". Al-Qallaf is a co-founder of Kuwait psychology society and took part in the "future schools" project to develop the skills of talented students in 2007.
NCCAL added that the political sciences award went to professor of political sciences at Kuwait University Dr. Abdullah Sahar for his work "the future of Asian cooperation dialogue : from forum to organization". Sahar took part in no less than 20 international conferences on foreign relations between countries.
NCCAl noted that the winner will be honored during the 24th Al-Qurain Cultural Festival next January.
The state's encouragement awards were launched in 1988 to honor creative Kuwaitis for their efforts in their fields. As part of the award, the winners will receive a certificate and KD 5,000.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's appreciation award was launched in 2000, where each winner receives a memorial shield, a medal and KD 10,000. (end) shd.ag
