KUWAIT, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat fully supports His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's mediation to address the Gulf crisis, GCC Secretary General Abdulatif Al-Zayani said Tuesday.
Al-Zayani, at a joint news conference with Kuwait's First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah following the GCC's 38th summit, said His Highness the Amir was highly appreciated and respected by all leaders and people of the six GCC countries.
He said holding the summit in Kuwait reflected solidarity of the GCC countries and that they were focused on common action.
Al-Zayani said the GCC leaders assigned the ministerial council and relevant bodies to adopt necessary measures to transform the GCC from cooperation to a union status.
He said the GCC leaders called for completing the resolutions of the summit.
The leaders, added Al-Zayani, discussed key issues related to common action, as well as regional and international affairs.
They underlined importance of abiding by resolutions and agreements because they would safeguard security, stability and safety of countries and their citizens, as well as creating solid economic and social environment, he said.
The leaders also called for the speedy completion of defense and security systems in order to guarantee collective security in the face of regional and international conflicts.
Asked about Yemen, Al-Zayani said the GCC countries were keen on stopping bloodshed of the Yemeni people and offered an initiative that could end the crisis peacefully. (pickup previous) km.mno.bs
