Aid convoy enters besieged Damascus suburb of Ghouta - SOHR

AMMAN, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- A convoy of humanitarian aid entered the besieged opposition-held Eastern Ghouta region on Monday, under the UN and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent supervision, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
The observatory said it monitored the entry of convoy in Eastern Ghouta after the suspension of aid in the region for some months, and humanitarian situation was deteriorating in the city, it added.
The aid included tens of trucks carrying food parcels, a similar number of bags of flour, medicine, medical supplies, logistic materials and others for about 40,000 people, it noted.
The convoy was carrying aid to Kafr Batna and Saqba districts, some days after doctors announced that two children in Eastern Ghouta had died due to malnutrition and related complications.
Up to 260 people need urgent treatment at hospital and medical centers outside Eastern Ghouta as they are suffering from malnutrition and shortage of medicine. (end) tk.hm
