"Kuwait by your side" distributes school bags in Yemen's provinces

RIYADH, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- The "Kuwait by your side" campaign on Sunday handed out 11,984 school bags in Lahj governorate and 20,000 others in Al-Hudaydah province.
In a press statement, the campaign said the move is part of some projects aiming to support poor people and decrease dropping out of school in the two governorates.
Awad Al-Sallahy, a senior official at Lahej, lauded efforts and sincere stances by Kuwait towards Yemen in several fields, mainly education, over different eras.
He said that he can't count contributions by the State of Kuwait to the province of Lahj, referring to Khadija school as an evidence of achievements by Kuwaitis.
He called for continuing humanitarian action in Lahj, which is a poor province and needs further support in several fields.
Meanwhile, Tawfiq Hussein, a member of the Kuwaiti-Yemeni relief agency, said the project, school bags and tools, benefits 60 schools in six districts in Lahj.
Several schools were restored and rehabilitated during the last phase, in line with the project, he noted.
He added that the scheme also includes the construction of a school, worth USD 160,000, for people with special needs, pointed out that Kuwait's campaign also contributed to several fields including food, water, health and shelter.
He revealed that the campaign would contribute to reconstructing war-damaged houses, developing technical education and building mosques. He thanked the local authority for its unlimited cooperation and Kuwait for its continued and peerless support.
The campaign further handed out 20,000 bas to students in Al-Hudaydah within a project seeking to back the poor. The project targets 23 schools across the province. (end) mdm.hm
