(Changing dateline) CAIRO, Oct 12 (KUNA) -- The mainstream Palestinian movements, Fatah and Hamas, have agreed that the national unity government will rule with full jurisdictions in the West Bank and Gaza strip.
Fatah and Hamas, in a joint statement released following two days of deliberations, declared that they agreed to work together and "resolve all problems resulting from the divisions" by December 1.
The accord was worked out by Fatah and Hamas leaders, with Egyptian sponsorship.
The two groups have recently agreed that jurisdictions of the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority would be reinstated in Gaza, under Hamas' sole control since middle of 2007, when the Hamas Islamists drove followers of the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, in bitter fighting, out of the enclave.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian news agency, Wafa, said president Abbas issued orders to the government departments and institutions to implement the accord.
Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Al-Hamdallah welcomed the Cairo accord, said the cabinet spokesperson Yusuf Al-Mahmoud in a statement.
The government of national unity is ready to shoulder its responsibilities in Gaza, the premier said.
Meanwhile, leaders of several Palestinian factions hailed the accord as a major accomplishment on the path toward national unity. (pickup previous) nq.wib.ms.rk
