Arab League reiterates solidarity with Egypt, Iraq against terror attacks

CAIRO, June 5 (KUNA) -- The Council of the Arab League held an extraordinary meeting on Monday on the level of permanent delegates to express solidarity with Egypt and Iraq in the face of terror.
The meeting, chaired by Algeria, comes in the wake of the terrorist attacks that targeted the two countries recently.
In a statement, the council condemned in the strongest phrases the "treacherous and cowardly" attach the targeted a bus in the Upper Egyptian Minya Governorate last month claiming the lives of 29 people, among them women and children, and injuring many others.
It expressed condolences over the victims, reiterating condemnation of all forms of terrorism, and solidarity with Egypt at the face of such heinous terror attacks that target the innocent people and violate sanctities.
In addition, the council reaffirmed all countries' firm right to prevent any aggression against their communities, people, state institutions or government bodies, as well as their right to take the necessary measures to ward off any such threats against their on security or safety.
In a similar statement on the recent attacks that hit Baghdad's central Karrada district and Al-Shuhada bridge, the council condemned in the strongest phrases the blasts that killed and wounded scores of people. The so-called Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the explosions.
The League reaffirmed support to, and solidarity with the Iraqi Government and security forces and the measures they might take to eliminate such "gangs" and liberate the rest of the Iraqi territories still controlled by the militant IS. (end) mfm.asm.msa
