Indian Army kills two militants in Kashmir

NEW DELHI, May 14 (KUNA) -- Indian Army on Sunday announced that its forces killed two militants following an encounter in Kupwara district of north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting an Army official, the Press Trust of India said that the Indian security forces were carrying out a cordon and search operation in Bhagatpura under Handwara area of Kupwara district following intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.
The militants fired upon the security forces during the operation and in the retaliatory fire two militants were killed. The forces recovered two weapons from the encounter site and the affiliation of the killed is being ascertained.
Indian authorities said yesterday that two civilians were killed and three others got injured in Pakistani cross-border shelling in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom. (end) atk.mt
