EU confirms UK to trigger Article 50 on Brexit next week

BRUSSELS, March 20 (KUNA) -- The European Union confirmed Monday that the UK government will officially notify the Union next week its decision to trigger Article 50 of the EU treaty to leave the EU.
"We have been informed in advance. We are ready to begin negotiations. We are waiting for the letter. Now we know that it will come on the 29th. Everything is ready on this side," Margaritis Schinas, European Commission Chief Spokesperson, told a news conference.
He said that the first step after the notification will be the adoption of the guidelines by the European Council . Donald Tusk president of the European Council will convene this meeting to recommend the start of the negotiations formally and provide the mandate to the EU negotiator on Brexit Michael Barnier.
