IRBIL, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi forces have announced the liberation of some new neighborhoods in the northeastern part of Mosul city and killed some militants of the so-called Islamic State (IS).
The forces retook the neighborhood of Fadiliyah and Jaber Ibn Hayyan [military] facility, Lt.آGen. Abdulamir Rashid Yarallah, Commander of "We Are Coming Nineveh" operation, said in a statement on Thursday.
Some units of Iraq's army, supported by the international coalition airforces, recaptured Tel Keppe town and raised the Iraqi flag on all buildings of the town, he added.
The units seized some weapons, destroyed five booby-trapped cars and killed more than 20 "terrorists" in some areas belonging to this town, the commander noted.
In the eastern axis of Mosul, the anti-terrorism forces have managed to liberate Mosul's Nineveh Oberoi Hotel and some presidential palaces, murder a number of "terrorists" and ruin some equipment of IS, he said.
He pointed out that the Iraqi federal police forces in the southern axis of the left coast continued cleansing the liberated neighborhoods and managed to destroy some equipment
The coalition airforces launched five airstrikes and destroyed some vehicles belonging to IS and killed some of its militants, he explained.
The commander further said that the Iraqi forces also killed some terrorists and ruined a number of equipment in Rashidiya district. (end)
