ISLAMABAD, July 2 (KUNA) -- A roadside bomb targeting district chief killed at least four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers in Afghanistanآ’s southern Kandahar province, said officials on Saturday.
Kandahar police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Raziq in a statement said that the incident took place in the limits of Khakrez district where a roadside bomb targeted the district chief, Haji Mir Hamza. He was on his way to Kandahar city, the provincial capital, along with security forces when his car struck the roadside bomb.
The official confirmed that district chief survived the blast but four ANA soldiers were killed and three others wounded. An investigation into the incident had been launched but no group has so far claimed the responsibility of the attack, he added.
Earlier on Thursday, twin suicide blasts targeting a convoy of Afghan police recruits in capital city Kabul killed at least 33 cadets and left 53 others injured. The attack on the official came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following the launch of their warm weather offensive against the foreign and local security forces.
