Kuwait experience in renewable energy showcased in Arab meeting

CAIRO, March 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait experience in the field of renewable energy particularly solar energy was presented to Arab delegations participating in renewable energy experts meeting held at the Arab League headquarters on Thursday.
Head of the Kuwaiti delegation in the meeting Mutlaq Naif Al-Otaibi told KUNA that the Kuwaiti delegation briefed participants on the country's leading experience on renewable energy and the use of solar-powered air-conditioning systems to reduce consumption of energy.
Al-Otaibi, who serves as the director of maintenance of underground cables and overhead lines department at the Ministry of Electricity and Water, added that such experience was based on directives from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
"Various successful energy projects conducted by Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research have been presented," said Al-Otaibi, adding that renewable energy makes up 15 percent of the total energy used in Kuwait.
Al-Otaibi added Kuwait Institute is currently working on projects to expand the use of solar energy in houses.
He noted Kuwait has inaugurated a number of solar-powered fueling stations.
The Kuwaiti delegation in the meeting included Mohammad Al-Rshoud from the Ministry of Electricity and Water, Engineer Ahmad Al-Otaibi from Kuwait Institute for Energy Research. (end) mfm.mb
