KUWAIT, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- Kuwait National Security Apparatus Chief Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali Al-Sabah stressed on the importance of the strong ties between Kuwait and the NATO Defense College since 2010.
The official's remarks were made during a dinner banquet he held in the honor of the college's Vision of the Commandant Major General Janusz Bojarski late Saturday -- during his visit to Kuwait.
Sheikh Thamer expressed his pride over having the first Kuwaiti representative in NATO's Senior Course, held for the second time in four years, and the acceptance of a second Kuwaiti participant for the upcoming training course (Senior course 128).
Meanwhile, he said that the opening of the NATO-ICI Center in Kuwait set for 2016, will further strengthen the relationship and cooperation between the two sides. The center will be the first of its kind in the Middle East region, Sheikh Thamer added.
The launching of the NATO's center comes in time where the region is facing many security challenges including the political developments in Libya, Egypt and Yemen, the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the growing terrorist role of the so-called Islamic State (ISIL), the Chief noted.
On his part, Major General Bojarski said that the visit is part of a two-week field study, adding that the two sides will discuss cooperation in the information exchange field.
He said that Kuwait is one of the top NATO partners, adding that the visit's program also includes political, security and economic development issues.(end) amn.aas.ag
