KUWAIT, Sept 15 (KUNA) --The Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohammad Al-Duaij, sentenced seven convicts to death in the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque explosion case in Tuesday's trial.
The court also sentenced eight convicts between two to 15 years in jail, while the other 14 were proven innocent.
In the past seventh and eighth sessions, the attorneys presented their defense for 10 defendants out of 29 in case number 40/2015. The defense attorney's argued that first defendant Abdulrahman Aidan suffers severe anti-social disorder, requesting he be examined by a psychiatrist.
Meanwhile, in the sixth session, the court decided to alter the charges already registered in the case, namely complicity in the forms of incitement, consensus and providing aid to the prime suspect and bomber Fahad Al-Qabaa.
Al-Qabaa was charged with using explosives with the intention of killing, spreading terror, committing murder, joining an internationally-banned group that promotes toppling the ruling system with illegitimate means, namely terrorism, thus threatening the country's unity.
The court had held its first session on the explosion on August 4th to look into the cases presented against seven Kuwaiti defendants, five Saudis, three Pakistanis, 13 illegal residents and one fugitive with unidentified nationality.
The Public Prosecution has demanded extreme sentences against the defendants, as the prosecution's representative had presented thorough details on the case. They also provided visual evidence on the role of the 29 defendants in the blast, including hiding vital evidence and helping the driver, Abdulrahman Eidan, to escape.
The Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City was attacked by the suicide bomber on June 26th during Friday prayer in the holy month of Ramadan, killing 26 people and injuring 227 others.(end) amn.rkf.tb.ag
