Pakistani PM, US official meet, discuss ties

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif met on Sunday US National Security Adviser (NSA), Dr. Susan Rice. and discussed matters of bilateral interest and the situation in the region.
According to a statement issued by Prime Minister office, Sharif said that the United States is an important partner for Pakistan in all areas especially in economy, defense, and counter-terrorism.
On her part, Rice lauded Pakistan's efforts to root out terrorism, commending the country's role in promoting regional peace Later on on, the US national security adviser will also meet with Pakistan's top civilian and military leaderships, discussing issues of regional importance.
Rice's visit to Islamabad comes days after Washington voiced disappointment over the cancellation of proposed security level talks between Pakistan and India and urged the two neighbors to resume dialogue. (end) sbk.gta
