KUWAIT, July 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Consul General in Basra Yousef Ashour Al-Sabbagh has reaffirmed eagerness on turning over a new leaf with Iraq and establishing bilateral "brotherly and diplomatic ties" for the good of people in the two countries.
Al-Sabbagh made the statement during a press conference on Sunday with head of the Basra Provincial Council Sabah Al-Bazoni and other members after both sides had talks. The new consul is having meetings with Iraqi officials after he took over.
The Kuwaiti diplomat pointed to "goals and expectations we are working hard to achieve, topped with establishing brotherly and diplomatic ties." He stressed the historical and social ties between the two countries.
For his part, Al-Bazoni expressed optimism over the future of bilateral ties, especially once the consulate is opened in the province, which will help attract Kuwaiti investors to Iraq.
Meanwhile, Al-Sabbagh and head of the Basra Businessmen Union Sabeeh Al-Hashemi discussed means of boosting bilateral economic and trade ties.
During the meeting, Al-Sabbagh underlined that Kuwait is keen on enhancing ties with Iraq, saying leading Kuwaiti companies are ready to carry out vital projects in Basra. He noted that he would also work on facilitating entry visas for Iraqi businessmen into Kuwait. (end) am.msa
