ISLAMABAD, July 26 (KUNA) -- At least five Taliban rebels were killed in United States-led drone strike in Afghanistanآ’s eastern Nangarhar province near the Pak-Afghan border on Sunday, said officials.
Nangarhar police chief, Lt. Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told media that the unmanned aircraft targeted militants onboard a car in the Chaknoro locality of Lalpura district bordering Pakistanآ’s Khyber tribal region. The drone reportedly fired two missiles on the vehicle carrying rebels.
Earlier in the month, at least 25 suspected militants including former spokesman of the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Shahidullah Shahid was killed in a US drone strike in Nangarhar.
The drone strike came at a time when Taliban have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following the launch of their annual warm weather offensive amid ongoing peace negotiations with the Afghan government. (end)
