KUWAIT, May 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti youth have a remarkable penchant for volunteerism and humanitarian work, said a Kuwaiti minister at the opening of the 2nd Kuwait International Youth Forum on Saturday.
The Kuwaiti government incentivizes Kuwaiti youth to get involved in volunteer work and humanitarian activities which after-all benefit the society and build character, mettle, and morale in today's youth, said Hind Al-Sabeeh, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs and State Minister for Planning and Development, in a speech at the one-day forum, themed "Kuwaiti youth: hope for humanity." Stressing that Kuwaitis have been over the years well-acquainted with volunteer and charitable work, ambassador Nasser Al-Sabeeh, director of the department of follow-up work and coordination at the ministry of foreign affairs, noted in a similar speech at the forum that the late Fahad Farhan Al-Khaled was an early Kuwaiti philanthropist who established the first charitable and volunteer society in Kuwait in 1913.
A number of speakers at the forum, among them head of the mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross to the GCC Yahya Al-Eleibi and Deputy chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society Anwar Al-Hasawi extoled Kuwait's efforts at humanitarian work worldwide. (end) fsh.ajs
