KUWAIT, May 23 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Board and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah has underlined the importance of the meeting of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) to be held in Kuwait later today.
"The meeting's agenda includes topics that contribute to promoting the Arab joint action, especially those related to the media field," Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij told KUNA in a press statement on Saturday.
The three-day gathering aims to contribute effectively to upgrading performance of the Arab news agencies and promoting their role in covering news and information objectively and helping them benefit from huge technological developments of media outlets, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij said.
The meeting focuses on upgrading efficiency of journalists and protecting them from risks during their work, he added.
The gathering discusses training courses provided to journalists, in collaboration with international media institutions, to upgrade their skills and focus on ways to enable them to benefit from advanced services provided by the Belgian news agency.
The conferees discuss means to promote cooperation between the Arab and international news agencies, the current position of FANA'S Secretariat and topics related to St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to be held on June 18-19. They also consider Arab economic bulletin and the conference of Contemporary Global Challenges and National Interests as well as criteria of the competitions of the best report and the best photo. The FANA Secretariat holds two meetings per year and has agencies of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and Libya. (end) tb.hm
