Jordanian King lauds Kuwait's support to Kingdom

DEAD SEA, Jordan, May 22 (KUNA) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II on Friday commended Kuwait's support to his country over the past years, carrying out several development projects in the Kingdom.
Addressing the Opening Session of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa at a location in the Dead Sea region, King Abdullah II spoke about a "10-year economic blueprint, Jordan 2025," which "will enable us to move fast to diversify resources, develop infrastructure and capitalize on strengths." "This plan will be delivered through public and private partnerships and to a large extent through projects of over USD 18 billion to be announced today," he added. "Most of these projects are made through public and private partnerships. Some are funded by the Government and here I have to thank Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE for their support in many of the development projects in the Kingdom through the GCC fund over the past few years." Up to 1, 300 of the world's leading economists, politicians and academics in addition to senior officials and heads of state are attending the World Economic Forum that meets in the Dead Sea region for the ninth time, 21-23 May 2015.
In his address to the Forum, Egypt's President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi said that the Arab region is experiencing radical changes and serious challenges on all levels, political, economic and security, which urges the international community to join forces to counter them.
The nature of the region's changes cannot be understood through external visions or preconceived ideas, Al-Sisi said, warning that the "period of shifts" can be seized by certain parties to impose specific views on the region.
He revealed that Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheik will be hosting the next World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, May 2016.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also addressed the gathering, reaffirming commitment to the two-state solution to the Middle East conflict, in line with UN resolutions.
A Kuwaiti delegation is taking part in the Forum, including CEO of Alghanim Industries Omar Al-Ghanim; Agility CEO Tarek Al-Sultan; chairman of the Kuwaiti Danish Dairy Company Mohammad Jafaar; renewable energy expert Ayah Al-Fawares and CEO of Gulf Telecom Saud Al-Tawash.
Talking to KUNA on the sidelines of the two-day event, Al-Tawash stressed the significance of taking part in the Forum to for exchanging expertise in all fields, as well as probing investment opportunities.
Participants will be discussing topics of political and economic development in the regions especially in Palestine and Iraq as well as reforms in the Arab World.
Other topics will address the role of economy in the world's stability, economic and judicial reform worldwide and building institutional capabilities of major economic sectors such as power, tourism, pharmaceutical industry and IT. (end) ab.hmfd.msa
