CAIRO, May 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah has underscored the importance of Arab media in raising awareness of youth and supporting them. "Youth today are the victim of terrorism and extremism, so Arab media outlets should bear their responsibility to protect them," Sheikh Salman Sabah told KUNA in a statement during the conclusion of the 46th meeting of the Arab Ministers of Information Council on Thursday.
Sheikh Salman urged the media outlets to work professionally to educate youth and encourage them, stressing that media has a key role in "our life". He referred to Arab awareness towards the Arab national issues, especially those related to the "Operation Decisive Storm" and the "Operation Restoration of Hope," launched by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
Sheikh Salman also pointed to the real and serious Arab stance in backing stability and security of the Arab World, underscoring the significant role of both governmental and private media institutions in implementing the new media vision.
He stressed the importance of media role in improving the Arab image and developing programs.
Asked about a strategy of combating terrorism, Sheikh Salman said that it is important to get rid of traditional ways and provide advanced training programs to youth through Arab civil society organizations and specialized media institutions.
He affirmed, at the same time, confidence in the Arab youth and institutions in dealing with major changes the world is facing. The Minister said that he discussed with Somalia's Minister of Information the bilateral ties and means of promoting media cooperation.
Concerning his meeting with Palestine's Minister of Information Mahmoud Khalifa, Sheikh Salman said that Khalifa stressed the significant role of media in shedding light on the Palestinian issue, the pivotal one of Arabs and Muslims. Sheikh Salman underscored the significance of credibility of different media outlets, mainly satellites' channels.
As for setting up a TV channel of the Arab League, the Kuwaiti official said that several officials see that this channel will not be the solution needed in this phase. He noted that the 46th meeting has issued a number of key recommendations, topped with the reactivation of the media follow-up that related to the implementation of media strategy and the development Arab media discourse. Sheikh Salman expressed gratitude to Egypt for supporting the meeting, lauding efforts and role of the Arab League, Secretary General and all officials.
The Minister hoped that the union of Arab radio stations and Arab news agencies would have a key role in supervising plans in all Arab countries aiming to raise awareness of youth. (end) msh.rg.hm
