KUWAIT, May 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim condemned Thursday Israel's continued detention of Palestinian lawmakers.
The international community must, practically and effectively, stop such flagrant Israeli violation against 17 Palestinian MPs, 13 of whom have been imprisoned for over 13 years, Al-Ghanim, also Head of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), said in a press statement.
The UN Security Council (UNSC) and major countries should take their responsibilities in pressuring Israel to release Palestinian lawmakers, Al-Ghanim said, adding that Israeli authorities must also respond to repeated and renewed calls by UN bureaus and human rights organizations such as the Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to release these prisoners immediately, the Kuwaiti Speaker said.
The AIPU Presidency did not waste an opportunity at any international arena in pointing out this issue and demanding an end for it, Al-Ghanim confirmed. (end) rkf.tab.ma
