KFNA chief underlines family role in children healthy nutrition

KUWAIT, May 1 (KUNA) -- Family plays an essential role in establishing healthy food habits for its children, Head of the Kuwait Food and Nutrition Association (KFNA), a non-government organization, Dr Ahmad Rashed Al-Haifi said.
On the sidelines of a two-day event on food organized at the Avenues Mall on Friday, Al-Haifi told KUNA in a statement that the keenness of parents to select and eat healthy meals contributes to directing their children to eat also healthy food in their life.
He underlined the significance of breakfast as it improves children's brain function and concentration and helps them perform better in classrooms and playgrounds.
He recommended families to offer healthy food and juice for their children, noting that family, which does exercises, produces rarely obese children.
He urged families to do daily exercises to improve their bodies and be protected from diseases, pointing out that today's event is the first one of the association since it was established.
"Today's event is allocated for children. It includes some sports and food activities for children whose ages range from 4 to 12 years," he said.
The events involve competitions on public health for audience and an awareness competition for children, he said, noting that such activities contribute to educating children about healthy options of food. (end) shh.tab.hm
