KUWAIT, March 30 (KUNA) -- Outgoing UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief coordinator Valerie Amos Monday dedicated her honoring by Kuwait for all humanitarian workers around the world and people in need, who inspired her during her tenure.
Amos said Kuwait has been playing a key role in coordination among donors for the Syrian crisis on humanitarian basis.
The Top Donors Group (TDG) mechanism is important, and it is essential to explore new financing methods to provide assistance for some 12.5 million Syrians, internally displaced and refugees in neighboring countries, said Amos during a dinner banquet hosted by First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in honor of her boss Ban Ki-moon.
Amos expressed gratitude for His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for honoring him.
She said was looking forward for generous contributions during the aid-pledging conference.
The situation in Syria will not improve but with further contributions, she said, or people would simply perish.
