UN official hopes Kuwait III supports women groups inside Syria, neighbors

KUWAIT, March 30 (KUNA) -- UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Regional Director for Arab Region Mohammad Mohammad Abdol Ahad said the Third International Pledging Humanitarian Conference, due tomorrow, aimed at rallying international support for Women agencies in Syria and neighboring countries.
Kuwait is at "the heart of the Arab world," and is known for its philanthropic acts, Abdol Ahad said in a statement to KUNA and Kuwait TV, shortly after arrival in Kuwait Monday to participate in the aid-pledging meeting, also known as Kuwait III.
Kuwait "is the most suitable place" for the donors' meeting, he said, specially after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was honored by the UN last September as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as "Humanitarian Center." He said UNFPA received during the first donors' conference that was held in Kuwait USD five million that were transferred to vulnerable people inside Syria and in neighboring countries, namely women and children.
Abdol Ahad hoped Kuwait III would contribute to supporting women organizations in Syria and neighboring countries.
UNFPA seeks financial contributions to help around 500 pregnant women inside Syria and 70,000 pregnants in neighboring countries. (end) kt.bs
