NGOs pledges over USD half bln for Syrian refugees

KUWAIT, March 30 (KUNA) -- Kuwait and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have pledged over USD half billion in aid for the Syrian people, during a meeting of NGOs in Kuwait on Monday.
NGOs met in Kuwait to provide aid for some 12.5 million Syrian people, who are either internally displaced or refugees in five neighboring countries - Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Lebanon - pledging USD 506 million.
Kuwait Islamic Revival Society pledged USD seven million, Abdullah Al-Nouri Charitable society pledged USD five million, Zakat House and Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs pledged USD five million each, and the Direct Aid society committed USD five million, while the International Rahma society pledged to provide USD 15 million.
Patients Helping Fund Society pledged USD three million, Kuwait Popular Committee also pledged USD three million, Awqad Public Endownment pledged USD five million and Al-Najat Charitable Society committed USD two million.
Kuwait Banks union pledged USD and His Highness Sheikh Salem Ali Al-Salem Al-Sabah pledged USD 20 million.
Gulf, Arab and Western organizations also pledged USD millions to provide humanitarian and development assistance for the needy Syrians. (pickup previous) kt.bs
