KUWAIT, March 23 (KUNA) -- Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah underscored His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's eagerness to help alleviate the suffering of the civil conflict-traumatized Syrian people.
His Highness the Amir, through his various initiatives and contributions, is keen on easing the suffering of Syrian people, particularly children and displaced persons, Al-Jarallah told reporters during the inauguration of a photo exhibition organized here by the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
He noted that Kuwait has completed arrangements for hosting the third international aid pledging conference for Syria, scheduled on 31 March. Al-Jarallah stressed that strenuous efforts are exerted to ensure the success of the conference.
He expressed hopes that donors would announce generous contributions to humanitarian aid to Syrian people in the conference. He also wished a near end and everlasting solution to the conflict.
The senior diplomat said that the photo exhibition sheds lights on the tragic situation of Syrian people, especially children due to the four-year conflict.
For his part, Mohannad Hadi, WFP's Emergency Coordinator for Syria and Neighboring countries, said that the exhibition features photos showing the humanitarian ordeal of displaced Syrians and their everyday suffering.
He asserted that the WFP offers humanitarian aid, mainly foodstuff, for nearly six million displaced Syrians: four million displaced inside Syria and two million refugees in neighboring countries.
Hadi applauded Kuwait's generous donations to the UN organizations helping the war-stricken Syrian people. He expected that the upcoming Kuwait-hosted third international conference for Syria would be crucial for easing the suffering of Syrians.
He expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Kuwaiti people on their direct aid to Syrian people.
