Arab League officials praise His Highness Amir's support for Syrian refugees

CAIRO, March 21 (KUNA) -- Arab League officials commended His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah's relentless support for Syrian refugees, clearly manifested in his hosting of the third donorsآ’ conference to help the Syrian people end of this month.
The officials, in statement to KUNA, hoped the Third International Pledging Conference for the Syrian people, would contribute to providing further assistance to some 12.5 million Syrian people to exceed what had been offered by donors during the first and second meetings, hosted by Kuwait in 2013 and 2014.
Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby praised His Highness the Amir's humanitarian endeavors towards the Syrian people.
He said the Arab Leagueآ’s honoring of His Highness the Amir last September, following UNآ’s honoring of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad as "Humanitarian Leader," was "an evidence on the humanitarian role of His Highness the Amir in supporting the Syrian refugees." Al-Araby said he would be leading a delegation from the Leagueآ’s secretariat to the March 31 donors conference, also known as Kuwait III, and would give a speech about development in Syria, specially the humanitarian side of it.
Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Fadhel Jawad said His Highness the Amir was always at the fore to give a hand to the Syrian refugees.
"The State of Kuwait plays a massive role in the international humanitarian affairs," he said.
Jawad, who commended preparations by kuwait for the upcoming donors' meeting, hoped all donor countries contribute to alleviating suffering of the Syrian refugees.
Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories, Mohammad Sabeeh, said Arab and Western countries were admiring Kuwait's support of the refugee issue because of its humanitarian nature.
His Highness the Amir of Kuwait is hosting the third donors' conference as a "man of peace and as a Humanitarian leader ...," said Sabeeh.
The Syrian people are living in very difficult conditions in addition to the suffering of Palestinian refugees in the Yarmouk camp in Syria, he added.
Sabeeh however said the political side of the Syrian conflict should not be ignored.
The conflict should be solved diplomatically in a way that preserves unity of the Syrian people and territories.
Haifa Abu Ghazala, Assistant Secretary General for Media and Communication, said Kuwait has been very generous not only for the Syrian people but the entire world.
She hoped Kuwait III would help improve humanitarian conditions of the Syrians and help them return to their homes.
Director of the Arab League Health and Humanitarian Aid Department, Laila Najem, said Kuwait "is a big partner of the international community in addressing the humanitarian conditions in Syria and the region." She said that 90 percent of pledges made at the second pledging conference were honored.
This commitment, added Najem, underlined importance of Arab League Secretary General's proposal on forming a group to follow up implementation of the resolutions of the donors' meetings.
Kuwait III is set to feature participation of 78 countries and more than 40 international organizations.
Kuwait hosted the first and second donors' conferences in 2013 and 2014. Pledges in the first amounted to USD 1.5 billion while reaching USD 2.4 in the second. Kuwait pledged USD 300 million in the first meeting and USD 800 million in the second meeting. (end) ms.mfm.bs
