CAIRO, March 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's permanent delegate to the Arab League Ambassador Aziz Al-Daihani underscored here on Tuesday the significance of holding the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria to be hosted by Kuwait on March 31.
Al-Daihani said in a press remark that the conference will be held in response to international calls urging Kuwait to host, for the third time, the conference that embodies His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's status as being a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center".
He stressed that the current humanitarian situations in Syria need all regional and international efforts to help Syrian people overcome daily challenges in order to alleviate their suffering.
He noted that Kuwait honored all pledges announced in the first and second conferences for Syria held in 2013 and 2014.
The Ambassador expressed Kuwait's hope that contributions in the coming conference would lead to alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people, especially after the UN said the Syrian crisis is "the worst humanitarian one since World War II".
He voiced his pride that Kuwait will host an international conference for the third consecutive year for Syria, saying it is a message to the whole world that Kuwait gives a top priority to humanitarian action.
Kuwait had hosted two donors' conferences for Syria in 2013 and 2014. Pledges of the two conferences reached USD 1.5 billion in the first and USD 2.4 billion in the second.
Kuwait donated about USD 300 million and USD 500 million in the first and second gatherings respectively. (end) mfm.rgh.hm
