EU calls on Yemenis to engage with president on talks' venue

BRUSSELS, March 4 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) Wednesday urged all parties in Yemen to engage with Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi on his proposal to move the reconciliation talks' venue to Saudi capital Riyadh if such dialogue cannot be held in Yemen.
"The EU invites all parties to constructively engage with him on this issue in order to find a consensual location," an EU spokesperson for foreign affairs told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity, however noted that according to a recent UN Security Council statement, the UNSG Special Advisor should be determining the location of the political talks.
Moreover, the EU is not considering moving the location of its mission in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, which is currently evacuated.
Every country with a diplomatic representation in Yemen can make its own decisions about where it chooses to locate it, added the spokesperson.
Several Gulf Cooperation Council states have moved their embassies to Aden from Sanaa due to security concerns. (end) nk.lb
