Absence of Yemeni political solution worries UNSC

NEW YORK, March 4 (KUNA) -- UN Security Council expressed concern at the absence of political solution in Yemen and the development of the terrorist threat, which is thriving on the current political and security vacuum, Permanent Representative of France said.
Speaking to the press, late on Tuesday, Ambassador Francois Delattre said the Council has been briefed by the Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Yemen Jamal Benomar, on the progress of his mediation efforts and the evolution of the situation in Yemen.
"We reiterated our call on all Yemeni parties to implement the Council's resolutions in particular resolution 2201," he said.
The Council also called on all parties to reach as soon as possible a political agreement, in accordance with the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism, the conclusions of the Conference of the national dialogue and the peace and national partnership Agreement (PNPA) and its security annex.
Delattre said the Council member States reiterated full support to the efforts of Benomar, and their attachment to his safety and that of his team. "We reaffirmed our strong and unanimous commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen. So it was a good meeting," he added.
On February 24, UN Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2204, renewing the measures imposed on Yemen sanctions regime until February 26, 2016. (end) mao.gta
