Pakistan terms US drone strike 'unnecessary'

ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned the United States led drone strike in northern tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan and termed it 'unnecessary', said Foreign Office.
The spokesperson for Pakistan Foreign Office, Tasneem Aslam in a statement said, "These drone strikes are a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity and should be stopped." She further said that Pakistan has always taken up the issue of drone strikes with the US administration at every level because these attacks are also a violation of international laws.
Earlier on Thursday, at least four suspected militants were killed in a US drone strike in South Waziristan tribal region of northern Pakistan, said reports.
The drone targeted the Birmal Tehsil of South Waziristan firing four missiles at a compound destroying it completely.
The strike claimed to kill at least four suspected militants and injure several others including foreign nationals, media reported.
South Waziristan is among the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions of Pakistan facing militants' insurgency and military launched a major offensive against these militants in 2009.
Drone attacks are widely unpopular across Pakistan and the country has opposed the strikes several times in past considering it a violation of their territorial sovereignty. (end) sbk.ibi
